Market overview

Our device enables to address both primary (HTP1) and secondary hyperparathyroidism (HTP2).

Those two pathologies represent two distinct treatment opportunities:

  • HPT1:
- HPT1 is after thyroid diseases, the most common endocrinopathy in adults, especially in women. It is present in about 1% of the western population and its incidence increases to 2% or more after age 55 years. It is 2 to 4 times more common in women than in men

- In the US only, there are about 100,000 new HPT1 cases every year

- In order to normalize serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) and serum calcium level, the current therapy for HPT1 is surgery (parathyroidectomy)

  • HPT2:
- HPT2 is mainly observed in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), especially for patients turning into End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients or dialysis patients

- Risk factors for CKD include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity

- In the US, there are 30 million patients affected by CKD and 500,000 dialyzed patients

- It is estimated that 50% of the dialyzed population is affected by HPT2

- The current standard care for patients consists of long-term medication including calcimimetics and vitamin D analogues

Theraclion’s technology is able to treat both conditions by lowering, in a controlled manner the PTH level of the dysfunctional parathyroid glands:

> it offers surgeons an additional tool to treat patients in a non-invasive way

> it offers an opportunity for dialysis patients to limit their medication intake
